Made in NYC Learning Lab enlists the creative expertise of the Pratt community to design and facilitate innovative learning opportunities and provide creative services to guide Made in NYC manufacturers and makers towards smarter marketing and branding strategies, practices, and outputs.

About the Learning Lab

The Made in NYC Learning Lab provides stipends of up to $25,000 to Pratt faculty and staff to teach workshops or provide creative services to Made in NYC companies. Faculty & Staff Fellows may include Student Fellow opportunities in their proposal.

This opportunity is open to full-time and part-time professors, adjunct and visiting faculty, and full-time and part-time staff at Pratt Institute. Current Pratt students can participate in supporting a program led by staff or faculty but may not apply as the program lead. We welcome applications from those who have participated in the past for existing or new program ideas.

Since 2016, Made in NYC has enlisted the Pratt community to bring creative expertise to Made in NYC manufacturers and makers. To date, this effort has served more than 1,300 businesses in diverse programs. The most successful programs have delivered concrete value to businesses, such as photography or videography assets that can be integrated into marketing and business development, and have clear connections to business growth goals. Additionally, businesses have expressed interest in event and market vending best practices and learning how to pitch to retail, wholesale, and corporate clients.

In the coming year, Made in NYC hopes to build on past success, strengthen services that address business needs, and leverage key Pratt Institute assets. Examples of high-impact programming include

  • Product photography integrated into digital marketing
  • Integrating storytelling that helps businesses tell their story and builds content for the Made in NYC website and social media channels
  • Resources for how to merchandize products and retail to consumers

These are intended to be illustrative; Made in NYC welcomes any and all ideas from the Pratt community for programs that will serve NYC manufacturers and makers.

Applicants selected to participate in Learning Lab programming will work closely with the Made in NYC program staff to ensure program success.

The Made in NYC Learning Lab is a publicly-funded program and has set ambitious goals to reach New York City manufacturers and makers. The Made in NYC team will work with faculty to refine program concepts, support recruitment, and identify program partnerships that will ensure programs meet goals and deliver value for businesses and the Pratt community alike.
