Future Cities

The Future Cities Fellowship sought to invest in young women of color by creating a safe space to learn and be creative, and to instill in participants the confidence that their voices matter and are needed in the boardrooms and at City Hall. The project engaged recent graduates from the Octavia Project’s 2019 Summer Institute to explore urban planning issues they encounter in their everyday lives, and co-create an urban planning curriculum for young people that can be replicated and disseminated across the city. The fellowship was supported by members of the APA-NY Diversity Committee, who provided mentorship and role models, and a direct link to the urban planning field. Student participants were trained in delivering these workshops and invited to facilitate them the following year with the next round of students.
