Emily Ahn Levy

Visiting Professor Urban Placemaking & Management
Emily Ahn Levy (안은옥) is a consultant and educator in cultural organizing and urban placemaking. Their work is situated at the intersections of social justice, community arts and culture, and public space in Lenapehoking/New York City. Emily's diverse clients and collaborators include artists, activists, community groups, nonprofits, institutions, local government, and more. Notable previous work includes serving as the project director of community artist-in-residences with ArtBuilt in partnership with the Queens Museum, NYC Parks, and funded by the National Endowment for the Arts' Our Town program; acting as an equity and program consultant for Grantmakers in the Arts, the NYC Department of Cultural Affairs, and Habitat for Humanity; and conducting participatory action research with Naturally Occurring Cultural Districts NY (NOCD-NY), funded by the Mellon Foundation. Currently, they teach the UPM Lab: Analysis of Public Space studio and a course on Democracy, Equity, and Public Space in the Urban Placemaking & Management graduate program at Pratt Institute. They also advise NOCD-NY and Arts & Democracy. Emily received their B.Arch and M.S. in Urban Placemaking & Management from Pratt Institute. They are on the Board of Directors of the Myrtle Avenue Brooklyn Partnership in their neighborhood of Fort Greene, Brooklyn, where they reside with their two cat comrades.
