Life of Benjamin Banneker
The Life of Benjamin Banneker project by Associate Professor Theodora Skipitares and DeAndra Craigman, MA Art and Design Education ‘19 engaged with the Soul Tigers of Benjamin Banneker Academy (a drumming band) and the residents of Gibb Mansion to tell the story of astronomer and mathemetician Benjamin Banneker (1731-1806). Banneker was portrayed using large-scale puppets painted by Craigman, which were used in an outdoor parade, and eventually a theatrical production. The history of the project was documented in a book as well as a video.
