Leonel Lima Ponce

Academic Director, Pratt Institute's M.S. in Sustainable Environmental Systems
Leonel Lima Ponce was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brasil, and has been living in the United States as a proud immigrant and global citizen since 1994. Leonel is a Registered Architect in the State of New York and the Academic Director of Pratt Institute’s MS in Sustainable Environmental Systems (SES) program, in the Graduate Center for Planning and the Environment. Leonel has a Bachelors of Architecture from the University of Texas at Austin, and an MS in Urban Environmental Systems Management (now SES) from Pratt Institute. He seeks to foster just partnerships for sustainable and resilient design, infrastructure, and development through community-based strategies, locally and internationally. He serves on the Steering Committees of the Stormwater Infrastructure Matters (SWIM) Coalition, and the Partnership for Academic Leadership in Sustainability (PALS), as well as the Board of Lower East Side Ecology Center. In addition to his collaborations in New York City and at Pratt, Leonel is a Technical Assistance Partner in the Sustainable Favela Network in Rio de Janeiro, and is committed to internationalism and the free exchange of diverse knowledge and visions as key tools for Just Transitions.
