Juan Jofre Lora

Juan Jofre Lora is the Founder and Principal of Estudio Esmero, an Associate Professor at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY, and a Registered Architect in New York and New Jersey. He teaches across various departments at Pratt, primarily in Foundation and the School of Design. His work focuses on developing educational programs that provide students with opportunities to engage with external communities. Juan has been instrumental in creating and leading the Foundation Expanded program, a series of initiatives and full-scale public projects that allow Pratt students to interact with the local neighborhood. He is also the Director of Pratt x Rwanda, a design-build study abroad program in Kigali, Rwanda. Before founding Estudio Esmero, Juan worked for several renowned firms in NYC, including A+I, Tod Williams & Billie Tsien, Weiss/Manfredi, Studio Libeskind, and KPF. He has participated in multiple public exhibitions and served as the Research Coordinator for OfficeUS, the American Pavilion at the 2014 Venice Biennale. Juan holds a graduate degree in Architecture from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and a Bachelor of Science in Architecture from the University of Cincinnati. Born in Bogotá, Colombia, he immigrated to the United States in 1996.
