Anita Merk

Adjunct Assistant Professor School of Design
Anita Merk has 30 years of experience providing project leadership and directing creative strategy. As the Founding President of Flyleaf Creative since 2009, she works directly with top-level executives to strategize and execute extensive creative campaigns for arts, culture, and social justice initiatives. Under her leadership, Flyleaf Creative has received numerous awards, including four 2024 German Design and German Brand Design Awards, 14 Indigo Design Awards, and the title of Final Winner in the Design for Social Change of the Year category in 2023. Anita has been an adjunct assistant professor at Pratt Institute since 1999. She developed and teaches two original courses: Product, Environment, Material and Branding and Messaging. Over the past decade, she has also taught courses such as Typography and Information Design, Senior Project, Graphic Design 1 & 2, and Visual Communications. Anita served on the Communication Design Curriculum Committee during the 2015-16 academic year. A native New Yorker from Queens, Anita is the daughter of immigrant parents and a first-generation college graduate. Together with her husband, Danny Kahn, she is a founding member of Beam Camp, a summer camp in New Hampshire where children engage in problem-solving through building large-scale projects. In her free time, Anita enjoys cooking savory meals, attending live theater and music events, and frantically trying to finish reading for her book club.
