Professor, Industrial Design
Karol Murlak is a designer, researcher and educator with expertise ranging from product and space design to design research and consulting. Since 2005, he has been designing for leading firms and institutions from Europe and the United States including: Deutsche Bank, Boston Consulting Group, Martinelli Luce, Meble Vox, Terma Group and Pratt Institute. His projects were presented at exhibitions in London, Milan, Berlin, Frankfurt, Dresden, Budapest, Prague, Bucharest, Sofia, Ljubljana, Warsaw, São Paulo, Brasilia and Rio de Janeiro. He has won recognized design awards and competitions such as: Design by… Competition, Sanitec Koło Prize, Design Competition for the City of Łódź and many others. He co-founded and has been running Designlab, a design studio, for over 10 years. As a Professor at Pratt Institute in New York and Assistant Professor at School of Form in Warsaw, Poland, he is actively engaged in design research and education. He has been involved in numerous research projects varying from product and space perception to material development and application. Previously he worked at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw and the Polish-Japanese Academy of Information Technology in Warsaw. Karol graduated from the Spatial Design program at Falmouth College of Art in Great Britain. He holds a doctoral degree in design and a master’s degree in interior architecture, both from the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, Poland. He lives and works in New York and Warsaw.
