Environmental Planner
Job Description
Responsible for working on community-based planning, sustainability, environmental policy, data analysis, and mapping projects.
Position Duties
- Manage and/or provide all aspects of support and assistance for Pratt Center’s sustainability planning projects.
- Provide high quality community outreach, technical assistance services, implementation schedules and report writing for sustainability planning projects.
- Utilize state-of-the-art GIS tools to deliver high-quality data collection, data analysis, and graphic illustration of data with a focus on environmental data and analysis.
- Develop and utilize relational databases of environmental data for GIS applications.
- Research and make recommendations on acquisition of secondary environmental data resources, software and hardware that support sustainability planning applicable to GIS analysis.
- Coordinate all data and mapping-related tasks with the Planner/GIS Specialist and provide and/or coordinate the delivery of GIS training to staff.
- Provide community planning outreach, materials design, and implementation to sustainability planning projects.
- Supervise and train interns.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Skills
Database design and management, data analysis, project management, community outreach, client relations, strong written and oral communication and presentation skills are required. Team player, sense of humor and mission driven mind-set desired.
Required Experience
Master’s degree in environmental planning, urban planning or equivalent is required.
At least three (3) years experience in environmental planning or urban planning, with a focus on environmental data gathering, analysis, and reporting. Community planning and outreach experience a plus.

Sustainability Services Project Manager
Job Description
With guidance and support from the Director of Sustainability Services, the Project Manager will expand the successful pilot “Retrofit Bedford Stuyvesant, Block-by-Block” from its current base to neighborhoods in other NYC boroughs. The program strives to retrofit and “green” neighborhood apartments, houses, streetscapes and other properties leveraging community organizations, social networks, government, foundations’ and utilities’ support to generate enthusiastic participation, lowered emissions, green job creation and other benefits.
Position Duties
- Coordinate, supervise and train team of interns and staff
- Develop and implement outreach protocols for contacts with home- and property- owners
- Develop and implement training for outreach staff
- Create and maintain partnerships with citywide initiatives and programs and organized efforts to support the block by block indicatives, e.g. NYC Million Trees, CEC Cool roofs program.
- Oversee the development of a management tracking tools and out comes data base; manage consultant contract and assist consultants with development of product
- Implement tracking tool and outcomes database, ensure standardized data entry and the crafting of appropriate reports
- Oversee contractor participation and recruitment efforts
- create partnerships with and ensure participation of local workforce development organizations/efforts
- Weave high road labor practices into and throughout program expansion
- Perform all other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills
Knowledge about energy retrofits, financial incentives, and project management is desired. Experience in community organizing and work with community-based organizations is a plus. Solid interpersonal, presentation and training skills are required. Management experience is a plus. A good sense of humor and mission-driven mindset are welcomed!
Required Experience
Master’s degree in Public Administration, Environmental, Energy, Planning, Public Health or Environmental Public Policy preferred, or equivalent experience. A minimum of three (3) years’ project management experience is required.

Pratt Center Internships
During the academic year, Pratt Center internships are limited to students enrolled at the Pratt Institute. However, we do have opportunities for summer interns from other institutions, especially graduate students in urban planning.
