Interested in reducing his carbon footprint and saving money in the long run, homeowner David Selig contacted Rob Ashmore of Aeon Solar Inc., a solar photovoltaic installer. Aeon installed a 5kW solar panel array on the roof paid for with the help of the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) PV incentives. After a year of planning from start to finish, 100 percent of electricity in the row house is being supplied by the sun.

Queens Business Owner Cuts Energy Costs with New Industrial Appliances

Steven Klebanow, owner of Presstige Cleaners/CRDN of Metro New York, a commercial laundry business, aimed to cut his energy costs. he sought incentives to purchase a new boiler and more energy efficient washing machines.

The laundry business is housed in a 30-year-old, one-story building (about 2,000 square feet). Because there are no other buildings or trees shading its roof, the building was a great candidate for solar panel installation that will decrease Steven’s electricity bills.

Commercial buildings alone generated 21 percent of New York City's carbon emissions.
