"Spark to Market" is an event designed to connect enertech and cleantech entrepreneurs with resources to help them bring their products and ideas to market. Join us at no cost(!) and engage with public and private sources of funding, industry leaders, manufacturers, incubators, as well as other local entrepreneurs.
At this FREE workshop, homeowners will learn about energy-saving tips, energy efficiency, and residential renewable energy incentives.
Homeowners can bring 12 months of utility bills from ConEd and National Grid or their oil provider to the workshop. Senior Energy Smart Communities Coordinator Jay-E Emmingham will help them fill out applications for free or low-cost energy audits offered by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA).
The Green Healthcare Forum will bring together leaders and healthcare professionals to discuss how healthcare facilities in New York City can improve energy efficiency, reduce operating costs, and contribute to a healthier and more sustainable environment. There will be four sessions in the series from August 2011 to January 2012. The goal is to educate and inform CEOs and facilities managers of medical groups, hospitals, and other healthcare facilities in the New York City area on issues and challenges in sustainability.

Calculate and keep track of your building’s energy use. Learn how to choose and evaluate energy efficient improvements in your building. Most buildings know their energy and water usage as one number: dollars, and expect it to go up every year. Savvy building owners block out their usage and costs per square foot, and even can separate how much energy they use for heat vs. hot water. All of this is 4th grade arithmetic, and today, we’ll explain it to managers, executive directors, and accountant/bookkeepers, so you can begin to track and grade your buildings’ consumption of water, electricity, gas, and oil. Attendees will get a sample report card e-mailed to them after the session, so they can see how all of their buildings are performing.
Presenter:
F.L. Andrew Padian, Vice President for Energy Initiatives, The Community Preservation Corporation
F.L. Andrew Padian is Vice President for Energy Initiatives for The Community Preservation Corporation (CPC), a not-for-profit affordable housing mortgage lender, where he is working in the implementation of the Green Loan Program, working with CPC staff and building owners across New York State. He has 30 years of experience in the building science, and has performed detailed energy analysis on hundreds of buildings across the country. He created the first national model for training and certification of building managers and maintenance staff of multifamily buildings for energy efficiency; over 2000 participants have taken the extensive 1 to 5 day training.
Participants will learn about New York State and New York City green retrofit funding sources:
New York State Homes and Community Renewal Weatherization Assistance Program, Con Edison Multi-family Energy Efficiency Program and NYSERDA’s Multifamily Performance Program. These programs are currently available to reduce energy use and operational costs in affordable multi-family housing. Also learn how to maximize and maintain savings within your buildings, once retrofit construction work is completed.
Presenters: Jeff Laino, Weatherization Director for Association for Energy Affordability (AEA) Marta Bell, Director of Marketing and Program Outreach, AEA Lindsay Robbins, NYSERDA Multifamily Project Manager Miriam Rubinton, District Manager, Phipps Houses Services.
