One-to-Four Family Housing Energy Efficiency Resources
Financing Sources for Energy Upgrades: One- to Four-Family Homes
Every homeowner in NYC is eligible for financial incentives to reduce energy use. Depending on your income, age and other factors, you can receive from 10 to 100 percent of the costs for making improvements to your house that will save you money on your electric, heating and water bills, make your home more comfortable and healthy and reduce harmful emissions that contribute to air pollution and global warming.
The typical home wastes 20 to 50 percent of the energy used. In New York City, homeowners save $800 to $1200 per year through comprehensive energy retrofits. Most investments in energy reductions pay for themselves in energy savings within four years. Measures covered by these various incentive programs typically include increasing insulation, improving or replacing heating systems, upgrading appliances, replacing lighting and addressing water waste. Other measures, such as new windows or alternative energy sources, may also be eligible.
