Helping Communities Build

As we have for the past 30 years, we help community-based organizations develop places that address unmet public needs and leverage innovation into broader change.

We offer architectural services and real estate development assistance to community-based organizations. We concentrate on projects that address unmet needs, that would be less likely to happen without our assistance, and that can leverage innovation and change. We look for opportunities to connect and learn from similar projects, and to participate in replication and systems change efforts, so that we can help make it easier for more groups to develop similar projects. In these efforts, we emphasize design that is high quality, participatory, thoughtful about neighborhood context and culture, and attentive to environmental quality and sustainability.

We are currently focusing on the types of public places -- child care, community-partnered public schools, libraries, parks, community and cultural centers -- that communities need in order to thrive, but that neither the market nor current models of community development are well set up to produce.
