Certified Passive House Consultant Course

Training on May 4, 2011 and May 18, 2011 and June 11, 2011

The Passive House Academy offers an 8-day course aimed at building professionals, including architects and mechanical and electrical engineers. This course is sponsored by The American Institute of Architects; Pratt Center for Community Development; New York State Energy Research and Development Authority; Pratt Center for Sustainable Design Studies.

The learning objectives include: definition of the passivhaus standard, thermal envelope, airtightness and thermal bridging, windows and doors, including fitting details, ventilation and heating principles, fundamentals on thermal comfort during the summer, electrical energy principles of drawing energy balances (use of PHPP software), basics of economic efficiency calculation, invitations to tender and allocation, construction site management and quality control, information and support for occupants, refurbishments using Passive House components.

The course format is interactive with a combination of lectures by Passive House experts, group exercises, workshops, exchange with experienced contractors, site visit(s) and hands-on training in the use of PHPP software (Passive House Planning Package). Comprehensive course material is provided at course commencement, as well as excellent preparatory guides for the exam. All material presented in IP. Units, along with Metric units for orientation purposes.

Course Fee
The cost of the Course is $2,100. This includes tutor fees, course notes (three detailed and technical manuals amounting to over 1,000 pages), exam preparation guides, lunches and coffee breaks.
The exam fee costs an additional $300.
In addition, Participants will have to purchase a copy of the PHPP software, available directly from PHIUS at www.passivehouse.us 

Part-Funding of Fees
With successful certification obtained, NYSERDA may be in a position to refund Participants up to refund Participants up to $200 upon submission of the application form and required documents PON 1816 as long as they are resident in New York.

Accreditation
On successfully passing the exam, Participants will receive accreditation as Certified Passive House Designers / Consultants.
Furthermore, this programme has been accredited by the American Institute of Architects and is worth 56 Learning Units (see www.aia.org)

Computer Equipment and Software
It is essential that all Participants have reasonable computer skills and understand the basics of Microsoft Excel. Participants are required to bring their own laptop with their own copies of both Microsoft Excel and PHPP already installed and working.
